June Flowers in Oregon: Peony Season & Summer Blooms

Looking for fresh June flowers in Portland? At Kvetka Flower, we work with local Oregon growers to bring you the best seasonal blooms available this month. June in the Pacific Northwest is when everything we've been waiting for all year finally arrives at once, and it's the month we look forward to most.

This is the month when our studio transforms. We're surrounded by the most incredible local blooms, the air smells like peonies and sweet peas, and every delivery from our growers feels like a gift. June is also the heart of wedding season in Portland, which means we're creating bridal bouquets, ceremony meadows, reception centerpieces, and installations almost every weekend. It's beautiful, it's chaotic, it's everything we love about this work.

Here's what's flourishing right now across Pacific Northwest fields and gardens, and how we incorporate these stunning June blooms into our European-style arrangements.

When Are Peonies in Season in Oregon?

If there's one flower that defines late May and early June, it's the peony. These lush, romantic, impossibly beautiful blooms are the most requested flower we work with, and for good reason. Peak peony season in Oregon is late May through mid-June, so catch them while you can.

Varieties we're working with in June:

  • Sarah Bernhardt (the classic soft pink, always requested for weddings)
  • Coral Charm (that breathtaking fade from deep coral to soft peach as it opens)
  • Salmon Chiffon (gorgeous pink color from Pinterest)
  • Festiva Maxima (white with red flecks, very romantic)
  • Hercules (deep burgundy-red for bolder designs)

Care tip: Peonies often arrive in bud stage, which is perfect. Keep them cool for slow opening, or move to a warmer room to speed things up. Change water every two days, recut stems at an angle, and keep them away from heat sources. With proper care, they last 4 to 6 days.

Peonies are the most requested June flower we work with, for events, weddings, and everyday arrangements. If you want them for a specific date, order early: once local farms sell out, that's it until next year. We also highly recommend visiting one of the gorgeous local peony farms. There are a few on Sauvie Island, as well as one of the most popular (and truly breathtaking) Adelman Peony Gardens in Salem.

What Else Blooms in June in the Pacific Northwest?

June flowers in Oregon go well beyond peonies. This is genuinely the most abundant flower month of the year for local sourcing, and our studio reflects that: every surface is covered, every cooler is full of flowers and greenery, and we're constantly discovering new varieties arriving from farms we work with.

Here's what's in season right now:

Early Dahlias

June marks the beginning of dahlia season in Oregon, and early varieties are already arriving from DVF, Rain Drop, Milk and Honey, and Cathy's Cut Flowers. Early season dahlias tend toward softer, more romantic tones (peach, blush, cream, cafe au lait) compared to the deeper saturated colors of fall. They're especially popular for June weddings for exactly this reason. Care tip: dahlias are thirsty and extremely fragile, so recut stems daily and keep them away from direct sunlight.

Campanula (Bellflower)

One of our absolute favorite summer flowers, and criminally underrated. Campanula adds dramatic height, movement, and that wispy cottage garden quality that elevates arrangements from pretty to extraordinary. Those nodding bell-shaped blooms in soft purple and white are very European garden style, and we use them constantly throughout the month. Vase life is 6 to 8 days with daily water changes.

Sweet Peas

Locally grown sweet peas from Oregon and Washington specialty farms are one of the great privileges of June floristry in the Pacific Northwest. The fragrance is unlike anything else, and those delicate tendrils add the most romantic texture to bridal bouquets and loose garden arrangements. They're fleeting (3 to 4 days), which makes them feel even more precious. We source them from Lomita, Raindrop, and other local cottage garden growers whenever available.

Snapdragons

Tall, colorful, and excellent vase life (7 to 10 days). Local Oregon snapdragons are at peak quality in June, ranging from pure white to deep burgundy, coral, and vibrant orange. We use them for height and color in both wedding work and everyday arrangements.

Poppies

Iceland poppies and Shirley poppies from local farms are one of the most beautiful and most delicate flowers we work with. Those paper-thin translucent petals are genuinely unlike anything else. They require extra handling (extremely delicate), but the result is worth every extra step. Vase life is short at 3 to 4 days, but we'd argue that's part of their charm.

Agrostemma (Corn Cockle)

If you've seen a wildflower arrangement and wondered what that long-stemmed delicate bloom with dark veining was, it was probably agrostemma. These cottage garden flowers are a signature of European-style floristry right now, adding a meadow quality to arrangements that no other flower replicates. Simple five-petaled blooms in white, pink, and purple with striking dark venation. We're obsessed, and so are our clients once they see them in person.

More June blooms from Oregon farms:

  • Foxglove (dramatic spires in pink, white, cream)
  • Larkspur (cottage garden blue, purple, and pink)
  • Astrantia (intricate star-shaped blooms, very popular in European floristry)
  • Nigella / Love-in-a-mist (feathery texture and beautiful seed pods)
  • Scabiosa (delicate and wispy, great filler)
  • Cornflowers (that vibrant blue is unbeatable)
  • Early garden roses (local varieties starting to bloom)
  • Moluccella / Bells of Ireland (architectural green texture)
  • Iris (elegant late-spring varieties, late May to early June)
  • Lilies from Peterkort Roses (Asiatic and double varieties are our favorites)

On greenery: June is when Pacific Northwest greenery hits its absolute peak: berry greenery, mint, smoketree, maples, ferns, salal, spring foliage in every shade of green. Our arrangements this month are genuinely lush in a way that's only possible in early summer.

Peonies for June Weddings in Portland

June is peak wedding season in Portland, and peonies are the most requested wedding flower we work with this month. For good reason: locally grown Oregon peonies at peak season are genuinely among the most beautiful flowers available anywhere.

For June wedding florals, we love pairing peonies with early dahlias, campanula, sweet peas, and loads of Pacific Northwest greenery. The result is that abundant, garden-gathered aesthetic that photographs beautifully and feels deeply local.

A few things to know if you're planning June wedding flowers:

Peony availability peaks in early June and usually ends around June 15th. If peonies are important to your wedding vision, early June dates give you the widest selection and best pricing. Late June weddings can still access peonies but with less variety and higher cost.

June is our busiest month. We accept a limited number of weddings to ensure each one gets the attention it deserves. If you're planning a June wedding, reach out as early as possible. For smaller gatherings, we're always happy to offer an a la carte option as well, just make sure to prepare enough space in your vehicle!
